I have been moving around the inter-webs and searching for good places to download royalty free images. So far, I have found Pixabay. It has interesting images for me to use. The question now is, what sites do you use to get royalty free pictures? I want to widen my sources. Thanks!

It depends on what kind of images you are looking for, but I use clip art ones as they are usually free and are allowed for commercial use. There are several sites I use, but they are good to check out as an option. There are some good artists that put their work there and the downloads are quick and you don't have to sign up either.

I've used royalty-free photos from www.publicdomainpictures.net and free clipart from openclipart.org

Images at both sites are licensed for free use without attribution. Some stock photo sites do require a link back or ask that the photographer is named. I usually do this anyway, even when not required. It makes it clear that the image has not been stolen and is being used with permission.

For simple pictures and caricatures, my go-to site is openclipart.org. When I need high quality and unique pictures, to Wikimedia.org and Freeimages.com I go. You can find millions of pictures with creative commons licenses (in other words, free to use however you want to sans copyright infringement) at Wikimedia and Freeimages.

Oh, lord, there are tons of sites to get free images. MorgueFile is one of my top go-to sites but there are many others. Just make sure you read any licensing information as not all free images are okay for commercial use. I prefer to use images that I'm allowed to modify because then I can make it unique.

As a general rule, free stock photos are extremely difficult to find. A huge portion of the stock photo market is owned by professional companies like Shutterstock and 123RF, who charge $20 or more for a single photo. Even when you can find free stock photos, most are low resolution, watermarked, blurry and, at best, uninspired.
