I want to be able to get into writing articles for money since it is something that can be done on your spare time. I know of numerous article writing companies like Textbroker, ConstantContent, Listverse, and iWriter. I mean Listverse pays people like $100 per accepted article but the acceptance rate is quite low. I can write an article but I know that my problem is that I cannot get some of that grammar right. Grammar has not been one of my strong suits. I would like it to be but I guess I have to work on grammar somehow. So how do you fix your grammar when writing articles for money?

If you are struggling with grammar I think you are not a native english speaker. I'm not one either and I struggle with the same problem too. I think the best way to fix our grammatical mistakes is by reading a lot of articles written in english and also writing as much as we can. Writing is a skill that improves with practice so my advice for you is to write and keep writing.

You could have it checked for errors at micro task sites where you could probably get each article fixed for a couple of cents a piece, but if you want something more long term then just start studying proper grammar structure for yourself since the resources online are probably endless so it's best to take advantage.

The most obvious thing to ask would be do you use a spellchecker? I write everything in Word, run it through the spelling and grammar check then copy and paste it into where it needs to go. No need to study when Office does it all for you!

@Joekakanrb did you just copy and paste what I said? I don't know if you did find my reply to be very insightful or you are just some kind of bot...

Spelling is not one of my weak points I could remember being a really good speller at school. I just had more trouble I think with the subject-verb agreement. I just do not get why grammar is something I am not as good as some people. I can write, but some of the mistakes I make is just with that. I guess practice is all I need, but I was hoping to use Grammarly's premium service, but I do not have the money.

Purdue Owl is a great resource. I cannot remember the exact URL, but you can easily Google the website and find the program, but the best part is the website is free to use.

@Charity thanks for the heads up about Purdue OWL. I didn't know of it before and now that I know I'm going to check it out extensively for sure. OWL stands up for Online Writing Lab. For those who are interested in it here's the link: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/

That is so cool Charity I will check out that source there. I am so thankful for everyone being so kind to give some good tips for this post. Not only this helps me but it gives me more motivation for improving my writing skills. I just hope Purdue Owl would really help with the subject-verb agreement since that is what I struggle with.

I recommend Purdue Owl. Professional, simple and pretty decent. It should help you get started and be better on the long term.

Use microsoft word or google docs for content writing and put on the spell checker or spelling auto correct.

Is Perdue Owl for free or do you have to pay? I only have the free version of Grammarly so it would fix small grammatical errors here and there. If I had the money to buy the paid subscription version which goes a lot deeper with the grammar corrections.

Just use the Microsoft Word for checking grammar and spelling errors. Well, you can also read grammar and linguistics books to improve your English skills.

One way to check your grammar is to read your article aloud to see if it makes sense. Never submit a first draft of an article. You should read, revise and rework everything you write. I am a very critical editor of my own work. I will leave a completed draft for at least half an hour, preferably longer, before proofreading and editing, and then I can always find ways to make improvements.

When I'm writing in a Microsoft Office Word document, it automatically underlines incorrect spelling in red and incorrect grammar in green, so it's easy to make sure there are no basic grammar or spelling errors in the final draft.

    Green squiggly lines FTW!

Word will spot most of the problems, but it makes mistakes, too - including false positives (where it thinks there's a problem, but there isn't). The best way to get your grammar right is to have someone edit it for you, of course, but that can get expensive unless you work out some sort of shared income agreement. Then trust becomes an issue instead! (I do this for a guy in Africa and it works great.)

As @Rube said, reading it aloud spots a ton of mistakes. Some people use one of those text-to-voice services instead of reading the document themselves - it sounds a LOT weirder (unless you like having your content orated by 1970s Battlestar Galactica cylons - "byyy yourrrr commmmmand!" (yes, I'm that old)), but you'll hear a lot more of your mistakes when it's not your eyes and brain skipping over them.

Perdue Owl's reference is free, I believe, though that's probably not the "pro" version. Grammar guides are all very well and good, but they won't read your content and spot the mistakes. It's kind of like asking someone who doesn't know how to spell to look up "gnat" in the dictionary... they don't know about the silent 'g', so how can they know where to look?

I always read my article twice over after running them on Word checker. Also, one can improve with English language usage by making it a habit to read articles and books and familiarize with both spelling and context use of words. This is true with second language learner of English like i am.

A word processor like Microsoft word can really help with getting your spelling errors out as well as some grammar. However most of it is left up to your knowledge of English. If you aren't good at it then there's not much you can do besides take an English course or do some online studying.

That's so true. Reading is one of the most powerful tools we have at hand to learn a language. Reading makes you improve even your mother language. It lets you expand your vocabulary and as you said learn new context use of words. I usually read one novel every month and most of them are in English, even though I'm from Mexico.

I have a brother that hates reading and has pretty much never read a book in his entire life and he has English grammar/spelling issues. My other siblings and I love reading and our grammar is much better.

@KenBrace you should really talk your brother into reading. A good book can open your mind in ways a few other things in life can do.

These days every hollywood movies are based on books. People can go to the cinema and think a movie they saw was awesome, but a movie can never be as great as a book.
