    You can rank on the 1st page with only a few high quality backlinks. Try to tailor your backlinks from directories that offer your catagory listing or websites tailored to your niche for the best results. The only time high PR backlinks compared to hundreds of low quality backlinks count is with the actual position within the top 10 ranking positions. Most searchers will visit the top 3 websites when searching for a keyword or phrase also known as the Golden Triangle. :)

    Quality backlinks are the inbound links from websites with high page rank, traffic, authority, etc. For example, Your article in articlebase provides you a valid backlink. The same way DMOZ is a open directory and if your listing is present over there then you get a valid backlink.

    DMOZ is a hard directory to be included on. You can still get better links and rank in the top10 without DMOZ

    We recommend avoiding Free link submission sites, mainly because search engines are aware of these site IP addresses and regards them as spamming and in the end will most likely give you an headache of endless spam in your inbox and lets not forget about weird cold callers offering you cheap PVC windows! :mad:

    A lot of link exchange sites are available these days. just type free link exchange and you would get your desired results. But you have to careful while link exchange. Exchange link with only relevant sites.

    I think for quality back links you have to submit your website into high PR directories, bookmarking, articles, press releases websites. Also do some blog commenting, forum postings.
