You may start promoting your blog by doing its SEO. Initially you may start doing Directory submission, forum posting, article submission, blog commenting and blog posting. Later on you may go for SMO and PPC along with SEO.

After writing a post on your blog. It's time for you to join open group in Facebook and Linked In.
many people mistakenly put 80% of their time blogging only 10% marketing where it fails because no body sees your blog.
In my opinion i will say put 15% or 20 % of your time blogging and 80% to 90% marketing it through the social media.
Start with Facebook join groups. Sharing your blog post with a catchy title, don't spam. The best example is to share tips and strategies with a link to it. Share during the peak hours of Facebook users. Do it consistently I am sure you will get traffic out of there.
