Hey guys, I would like to know what are the best methods and techniques to use in promoting my affiliate links in social media like facebook, twitter, etc.? What are the most effective method to use to be able to reach a great number of real people in these sites. Is social marketing better than having your own blog or website? What are the pro's and con's? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. :)

If you are just starting out then I would recommend just testing it out for yourself and seeing which ones work. This way you can grow your social media audience organically and also you get to see the results of e experiment yourself so when you do finally end up buying services or hiring people , you'd be more knowledgable on what it is you're paying for exactly and you'd have much better gauge of how fair their prices are in correlation with your own needs.

@JennyC nailed it. The best way I've found is just to play around with it. What works for one won't work for another. I have one blog where the best exposure I've gotten is when I'm doing a giveaway. Another blog and I barely have any entrants for the drawings. The only way you'll know what's going to work for your project is trial and error. If you're doing the work, at least you aren't paying someone else to put together a promotional campaign that's going to fall flat.

Very true. I've tried Twitter and Facebook and couldn't really relate to it, then I tried YouTube and have had a pretty good amount of success with it. What works for one person won't work for another, plus, the more you enjoy it, the better you're likely to be at it.

If you're having fun, it shows and people respond to it. Waitresses that smile & have fun make better tips. Authors who enjoy their topics sell more books. If you're enjoying it, you're working more probably and it's not going to be a struggle.

Very true. Different types of audiences flock to different sites so it's best if you know which is your audience so you could track where it is best to sell to them. This is the way it's been even before the internet but now that it's so easy to track communities then it really is best to take advantage.

Thank you guys for the posts. Whew, there sure is a lot of info to take in. The world of online marketing is really broad and there are a lot of options. Social media has grown to a point that it's part of the daily lives of people around the world. I agree that you should stick to your passions, what your really like and feel strongly about to be able to grow your audience. That way you enjoy what you are doing and it doesn't feel like work.

I would highly recommend setting up a Facebook page and link all your network of people to like it. Update it everyday so traffic is gained. Also make sure that your content is good and of quality. Content is king, always keep that in mind.

I would try experimenting with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and determine which one gives the best results. One thing to consider is the time at which you post - there are different audiences at different times of day. Whatever you decide to do, ensure the content is quality and attention-grabbing.

I can suggest two methods. One is tagging your target clients in information-driven posts with your affiliate link included in the text. Don't tag them when you're simply posting quotes. Another method would be to post on pages, timelines and groups. This will help draw traffic to your affiliate link and should be people be interested, you'll start having people under you.

As far as methods and techniques are considered, I honestly don’t think there is a right or wrong way to promote an affiliate link(s). My answer to that question would be to just do it. If you never put your link out there for nobody to see and potentially click, you never see results. Out of the millions of people that do promote links, no one person does it the exact same way. Therefore, as someone else stated it in a previous post, have fun with it! Make it your own and own it completely and thoroughly. Two things I would definitely take into consideration: 1) when you post a link, give a little more than just the link and 2) don’t overdo it. I have seen many people post links and nothing else. No background info, a sentence or anything. Automatically, people don’t click, because for all they know, it could be spam. With that said, let them know something to draw them in and make them want to click your link. Then, of course, don’t flood your page with links. More than likely, everyone is not going to click on the link. That doesn’t mean keep posting, posting and posting on the same platform to the same audience. If your results are or seem to be some lackluster, it might mean it’s time to switch some things up.

Secondly, I’m not sure I could resonate “big” numbers with social media. When I think of “big” numbers, I think of generating traffic to a website or blog platform. For me, social media is a great place to promote if it is being utilized in an effective and efficient way. For example, on Facebook, there are groups that specifically cater to affiliate marketers. This would be an opportune place to post links. Then, you could also use the direct messaging feature, which is available on most social media sites, to further inform and persuade those you think will give it a go off the top (I.e. close friends, family). Creativity goes a long way.

Lastly, when it comes to promoting affiliate links, I would assume that social media would be more effective. Then again, it all depends on what your intents are. With a personal website or blog, tasks, such as maintaining and operating the site have to be done on a regular basis. Then, generating traffic, which would include advertising/promoting, is necessary to get people to the site. In my opinion, it would be much simpler to promote to an audience that already exists within a Facebook group or Twitter followers, than to find and attract an audience.

Hope I gave you some acceptable feedback. Good luck in future endeavors.

If you use Twitter, find a twitter account that is related to your product and follow that account. Then Proceed to follow people who follow that account. You should then get a lot of messages on your twitter feed. Retweet the messages that relate to the product your selling. Be sure to keep doing this daily and don't forget to post some content your own to keep your followers happy. Make sure to put your link in each tweet. If you're lucky, they might retweet you and eventually profit.

I personally prefer Facebook ads since you can really drill down in your targeting and it's cheaper than what you would pay for in Twitter or even Google ads. It might be beneficial to have your own blog or website as you mentioned too since it will look more official and will probably convert better. But as others mentioned, test the waters with several avenues first and see what works best for your particular affiliate product or service.

Right now I feel that Facebook and Twitter are great ways to do promotion. Facebook is still very popular and can reach out to millions of people. Twitter is also a great way to spread the word these days.

I can agree with that. I was trying almost every social media (popular ones), and only Facebook and Pinterest worked for me. It's all about your niche and quality of traffic which you reach. For example: when I had my old CPC website, I was promoting it at Facebook and one of the french social sites. I got nothing from Facebook but I realized that I got traffic from Arabic Countries at most, because I reached some popular arabic guy at french social community.

To be effective with social promotion, it's important that you don't just use your social media accounts to post affiliate links. You also need to be interactive. You should be sharing, liking, retweeting and commenting on other people's content.

A social media account that is set up just to promote affiliate links will not get many followers. People are more likely to click a link in their feed when it comes from someone who counts as a genuine online friend. Some of your followers may reshare your affiliate link posts when they see that you regularly retweet, like and respond to other users.

Rube sums it up pretty well, you really need to have an online activity and not just be a link bot. People respond best to accounts that show a human side also with interaction.
