When it comes to building a website to market a certain product or products, do you think it's worth learning the script yourself, or are you better off hiring a web-designer that specifically caters to those looking for an eCommerce template?

I'm pretty familiar with HTML, but I haven't played around with it since about 2010, so I am sure it has changed a lot, and I've probably lost a lot of knowledge when it comes to certain codes and tricks I used to know. However, I feel like if I hire a designer, I won't be able to customize it the exact way that I want. I've hired people before, and though they get the job done, I like doing it better myself.

When you first started building your market, did you hire an eCommerce designer, a regular web-designer, or did you learn the script yourself in order to save money?
